Live like you are already retired!
This phrase continues to ring through my mind since the last Lifeonaire event that we put on. One thing that was clear at the event is that just about everyone wants to retire. However, I think that retirement has a number of different meanings, but when you explore they big “why” behind the reason for this desire, it all boils down to freedom.
Most everyone I know and coach has this strong desire to be free to experience life, and when people think about retiring, what they really want is relief from the life that they’ve created, a life that has robbed them of the freedom to experience the life they desire.
I don’t want to paint a bleak picture of the life that most experience, we all have much to be thankful for, but we must acknowledge that our thoughts and dreams of something so much more then what we have borders on the extreme and is a result of our discontentment. This discontentment leads to a thought life and ambitions that revolve around the extremes. So most people go about living life with this deep extreme desire for so much more then what they currently have, hoping that one day they’ll be rich enough to retire and then experience the reward, a full and abundant life. This extreme desire robs them of what they can experience right now.
This breaks my heart simply because we can experience that reward of an abundant life right now. Waiting to experience life is a lie. We don’t have to be mega wealthy to experience abundance, we need to be intentional. We don’t have to put the finer things of life off until we’re too old to enjoy them, we can enjoy them today if we’re deliberately pursuing life.
This is what we help our students to realize when they come to one of our Lifeonaire Retreats. We help them to get in touch with what it is that they really want in life, and to develop a plan that will get them this life.
I’ll confess that I don’t want to retire. I never want to stop working. I love what I do for a living. However I do not want my work to get in the way of experiencing an abundant life. I only work about 30 hours per month which gives me the freedom to experience all of the other things that make my life full.
I can experience this simply because I was intentional in designing my life and my business. You can do the same. Experiencing an abundant life is not something that you should put off until someday. Why wait? Be a Lifeonaire NOW!

Steve,
I want to pay you a compliment for zigging while everyone else is zagging. I have been living below my means for a long time while everyone else around me buys bigger and nicer houses and cars. I have learned alot from you starting with flippinghomes.com forum and now in your Lifeonaire venture. I am looking forward to the upcoming call on your “one hour a week success”.
Do you know if I will be able to listen to a recording of this later? I will be on a plane at the time of the teleconference.
Awesome blog and articles….I check it multiple times per day.
Thanks
John
Hi John,
Honestly, it wasn’t easy to go in a different direction. I was called crazy and I wondered myself. The world is all on the same path and you feel like a fool if you get off of the path. But I’ve come to realize that life is elsewhere.
We will be recording the call and making it available so you should be just fine.
Blessings,
Steve
Hi Steve & Shaun,
The event says May 31 through June 2nd, in Madison WI. Did I miss it, or do you need to refresh the dates?
If I did miss it, how did the experiment go?
Keith,
The event did take place and it was a success, but let’s just say that our experiment is likely just that. We won’t be doing it again. Many lives were changed, many people have followed up, a good bit have taken other steps, but the “I’ll mail you a check” for the event yielded one check. We didn’t expect many to follow through so we’re not disappointed. We only took in 10% of the cost of the event from those who paid something. So many said I was crazy for wanting to try it. They told me it wouldn’t work. They were right
Blessings,
Steve
