Would you rather survey…
By Steve Cook on Jan 26, 2012 in Debt Free Living, Lifeonaire Principles, Off Topic
Hello everyone. I’m curious as to what most people think and I’m offering up a signed copy of my book Wholesaling for Quick Cash to one of the lucky respondents. Here is my question for you:
Would you rather own your house free and clear and have no cash?
or
Would you rather have $200,000 cash, no house and pay rent?
Answer the question and tell me why.
Blessings,
Steve
PS- For those of you who share this on FB and get the most “likes” I’ll also throw in a signed copy of Wholesaling for Quick Cash for you.
PPS- Contest ends on January 31st, 2012

Steve, gonna take a shot at this. I’d rent and take the money. I work out of my place so I can still have some tax advantages. Less home and yard maintenance means more time to focus on my goals. I could have paid 4% in interest on a house or get 15% in interest and 3-4points lending my money to another savvy invested. Seems to me I could be well on my way to owning a few paid properties…Preferably ones that have tenants in them!

This seems like a no-brainer to me. I would take the cash (hey it is King), a house means more bills, whereas a rental could mean the landlord has to cover more expenses. Of course, I would want both, 200k in bank and a paid for home!

The $200k and the rent. Owning the house would be nice but with no money and monthly bills coming in and taxes I wouldn’t own it very long

I would rather have the $200K and pay rent. I would be freer to move and/or travel and use the money to flip homes to generate more cash without having to borrow from anyone!!

I would rather have a house. At least there would be a place that I can call mine. I can stay in. And it’s mine.

I can live without owning a house, but I can’t live without cash.

I would rather have a house. If you own the house free and clear, but has no cash. You can choose to work in whatever you like just to serve the simple living. In the Buddish we call we live as moderate life and get back to nature. You eat only you get full, not more than that. It doesn’t matter whether you eat in a nice resturant or at the vendor on the street.

I would take the house and refinance a 100k out. Does that count? The money is great, but if you’re paying rent that money is simply paying for a service, and it is not going to ever come back to you in any way.

I’d much rather own the house free and clear and have no cash, because a rental you have to pay for until you die, and if you’ve only got $200,000 in cash, rent will eat that up over time. That 30 years of rent at $555.55 a month–if you don’t own what are you going to do at 55 or 60 when the cash is gone?

Hi Nancy,
But would you put the money to work so that it doesn’t run out?
Blessings,
Steve
