No matter what situation you are in- regardless of how bad the circumstances- if you will consider your life for a minute, you will realize that there are a lot of great things present. Genuine gratitude for what we have is one easy way to change the texture of the day. A few minutes in quiet consideration for all the wonderful blessings that exist in our lives will leave you with a deep sense of appreciation. It’s not possible to be deeply appreciative and dissatisfied at the same time. There is something about gratefulness that humbles us.
Steal a minute- sneak off to the restroom, take a drive, whatever you have to do- and consider all the things for which you are truly grateful, and you will find it impossible not to sense a change of attitude as you put your problems in perspective with a wider view. When things close in on us, we tend to narrow our view to the point where all we can see is our problems, and they seem so large. Gratefulness causes us to have a wider perspective. When our problems are viewed from the wider perspective, they seem so small comparatively.
Develop the habit of daily gratitude and you will find that your perspective of your life will change and grow richer with each day. I carry a small sheet of paper with me daily to remind myself of my vision and mission. There is a small section on it where I list the things for which I am currently grateful. When I feel myself slipping into frustration or disappointment, I find that a quick glance at the things I am grateful for pulls me back to a healthy perspective of my life, allowing me to bypass the recovery process. Try it and you might find yourself smiling more. I know I do!Tags: featured
