"Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent." - Calvin Coolidge

About Me:

Mickey’s career started out in architecture firms in 2001. But he quickly found his place in construction project management, due to his ability to manage many people and projects well, as well as creating new systems and overseeing programs. He started off at a retail company in Long Island, opening 62 retail stores a year and grew to manage 11 direct reports in the U.S. and 22 direct reports in India. As a VP at a Fortune 500 real estate services company, he managed a group of 12 people, handling over 2,000 projects with a $120MM capital budget. Mickey’s expertise is in overcoming challenges and finding a way to make things happen, and he is now using the skills and experience he’s acquired over the last 20+ years to help people build their own homes.

Mickey and his wife, Elisa, have been married since they were 19 years old and have had a whirlwind adventure life so far (and plan to continue). They have lived in Palo Alto, CA; Dallas, TX; Long Island, NY; Houston, TX; and NYC; finally settling in the Berkshires of western Massachusetts in 2012. They have (6) kids and are all deeply loved by God!

Lifeonaire Vision:

WEEKDAY
I wake up bright and early at 4:59. I am not sleepy and a jump out of bed ready to go! I don’t have to worry about my blood sugar because I don’t have diabetes anymore and I feel no inflammation at all in my body. My clothes are all laid out and I lace up my shoes to get on the road for a 5-mile run. I am back by 6 to wake up Elisa and stretch while she makes our lattes. I fire up the sauna and Elisa and I enjoy our lattes in a beautiful spot inside or outside our gorgeous home (it is spotlessly clean and tidy every night before we go to bed). We chat about our life, schedule and how we can support our family and community while the sauna warms up. Once it’s hot, we go in and pray together and read about our latest passions and initiatives. After a good sweat I take a dunk in the ice bath for a minute or two. Then I jump in the hot tub before taking a shower while listening to my worship playlist. Now it is 8. I take communion, homeopathy and supplements and get dressed in stylish, well-fitting clothes and a cool watch. I confirm my schedule for the day and do my morning pages, bible study, affirmations and visualizations. At 8:45 I walk through my perfectly organized garage to my carport to choose between my super clean and great-smelling Lincoln Navigator or Aston Martin to drive to work. My phone smoothly connects to the bluetooth and whatever book or podcast I want comes on automatically. I pull into my building at 9 and make my way through the office where the employees are having a blast working on First Day Cottage. I get to my office where my assistant brings me a green juice and giant black coffee. I review reports that have been put together by my team of all the First Day Cottages that are underway as well as the pipeline for potential customers. I handle the highest priority issues for 2 hours (I don’t deal with email because my assistant handles that and adds anything I need to work on to a report). At 11 I walk through the building and see what’s going on with the teams. At 12 my Executive Leadership Team meeting starts and all the department heads bring their well curated lists of items they need decisioning and we get through them all in an hour. At 1 I am back on the road to get home for lunch with my family. At 1:30 I am in the gym with my trainer lifting until 2:30. I cool down while taking a virtual meeting with the office covering any issues we didn’t get to that morning. Or I spend that time strategizing or dreaming or napping. From 4:30 to 5:30 I spend time with the kids and grandkids, playing or prepping dinner or doing a puzzle. 5:30 is time for wine with my wife and a view. Then it’s dinner time! Delicious and nutritious! Made by our personal chef (unless someone in the family felt inspired). Dinner is over at 7 and, depending on what night it is, we spend our time playing Games, watching a Movie, Reading, Singing, Meeting, Date Night, Bible Study, etc. Trying to be in bed by 10. Now, that is unless it is Friday . . .

WEEKEND
Friday night is party night. We vary the party. Sometimes it is a community potluck, sometimes it is a formal dinner, sometimes it is guys night, sometimes it is community movie night with a projector on the side of the house, sometimes it is a bye week if we need the rest but it is always a blast and rejuvenating. Saturday morning I sleep. As long and as hard as I can until I drag myself downstairs for a latte with Elisa. Deep, meaningful, inspirational, growth-oriented conversations are the norm. 10 is when projects start. I work with my hands: building, landscaping, gardening, farming, assembling a kit car, etc. What makes this time so special is the ease and fun. Our house and all we own is organized, tidy, clean and well-maintained so our projects can be enjoyable. I am a goo steward of what God has given me. The projects can also be social events. I often work with my kids but also friends and community members. Folks stay for a beer before going home. Saturday night is free. Whatever we want to do. Sunday is truly a day set aside for rest. We again wake up late and have our lattes (gotta have our lattes) and are out the door to brunch at 9. We go from a leisurely brunch to church and then back home for a long nap. The afternoon is dedicated to sports: swimming, soccer, baseball, frisbee, volleyball, tennis, etc. Super fun! Pizza night and chill! Early to bed if we can.
